Description

I remember very clearly picking up Swamp Thing #34 off the spinner rack at the 7-Eleven in Calgary. I had just started reading/collecting comics and this may have been about my 25th comic or so. I was attracted to it by the cover and a quick look at the art. I'd never heard of this comic or character before. I remember reading it and rereading it as soon as I got home. It was the first time I understood comics could be an art form. It was visual poetry. The synergy that existed between the creators had produced what I still consider to be among the most important single comics ever created. This splash is the very first page of issue #35 and is a great image recapturing the content and feel of issue 34. A great image of the Swamp Thing sitting in the forest in front of a sleeping Abby. The text here is also fantastic making for a perfect stand alone Swamp Thing page.

It makes me so happy to see you picked this beautiful page up. I had the same experience with Moore/Bissette/Totleben Swamp Thing where it opened my eyes to the sophistication and beauty that comics could offer. Before Watchmen and Dark Knight, there was Swamp Thing.

An absolutely fabulous piece from the best period of Moore's writing. Swamp Thing #21 until around #40 is still untouchable even by the still great yet also overrated Watchmen. The synthesis of Moore's writing, Bissette's storytelling and Totleben's brilliant finishes rank right up there in the same pantheon of great creative teams from the same era such as Claremont, Byrne & Austin, Wolfman & Perez, and Miller & Janson. Can't wait to see it framed. Make sure it's done before Sept. 24th! Oh, and CONGRATULATIONS!

How in the heck did I miss this one?!?! That, my friend, is as good as it gets from the magical Moore/Totleben/Bissette run...

Usually a contemplative pose isn't a plus, but it perfectly encapsulates the character as presented by Alan Moore. And the detail work by Bissette & Tottleben is first class. Unquestionably an A+ page!
