About time this is posted! Absolutely the 2nd most important, iconic and desirable cover of the modern era, and for many people, of all-time. 'Nuff Said!

Just incredible. As a young collector looking for back issues in the early 80s, this comic book was my collecting grail. And here you are with the original cover!

I remember a bit over a decade ago being on Comicart-L and people postulating what the cover to the book would be worth if it were to show up. Astoundingly cool to see it here and now. Thanks so much for not being one of those folks who lock things away far from prying eyes!

That's it...I'm Done. This update sealed the deal for me. Looking at your collection is like taking a walk through my fondest childhood memories. There is no need for me to keep collecting art. From now on I am just going to tell people to look at my art collection and that my name is Dave Mandel.

For those of us who came in late: I know he inked the cover, but did Cockrum draw the "Old" X-Men figures at top? Oh, and AAAAIIIIEEEEE!!!!

Now you're just rubbing it in! :) Seriously, thanks for sharing. Often pieces like this get hidden in private collections and never shown off to the world, so it's nice to get to see this. Also, it's by my two favorite artists. I'll give you a call if I ever win the lottery.

Alright David, now it's really time to upgrade any old knob and tube wiring in your house. I'm surprised that Len ever let this go, but it bodes well for the rest of us with our slightly less lofty grail quests! Once more, a thousand church bells are ringing thunderously, and a host of angels have gotten their wings, and Dave's non-collector dinner guests are saying "yeah, I guess that's pretty cool."

You have a museum quality collection! (like you didn' know...) Thanks for sharing your treasuries! The only thing that I miss in your CAF gallery are images at 150 dpi, so we can enjoy all the detail. These pieces are worth to shine at maximum splendor!

One of the great examples of both the penciler and the inker shining through on one piece. You can tell it's Gil Kane a mile away but you can tell it's Dave Cockrum all over the place too.

As Glen Gold commented above, I also think that Cockrum drawed the old members. In fact, the prelim of this cover could prove this theory. Press here to check it out.

As Daffy Duck says "Your Dispiable!" LOL! Thanks for sharing this beautiful pirece of historic artwork! Two of the best in the business together! I remember vividly where & when I bought this comic. I loved the original X-Men & was just a little sad to see them being replaced. Until I bought & read this issue & saw Dave's goregous art! We'll if I ever win Powerball, I'll be offering you a IINSSAANNEE Offer! LOL!

I forgot to add, my only disappointment with this cover was Sunfire wasn't on the cover. Due to lack of room & I'm sure they knew he wasn't staying on the team. I wish he & Thunderbird both had stuck around atleast through Dave Cockrum stint on the book.

You know, when there are 70 comments before mine (and I felt the same way when I first saw it and there were only 30 comments), it seems to me that there are few superlatives that I could add to this piece. But the thing that keeps bugging me is, if this is "the 2nd most important, iconic and desirable cover of the modern era," as Ruben noted, what is the first?
