DescriptionGerardo is an absolutely amazing talent! His run of Hawkman covers recently was incredible - each one a masterpiece. Very thankful I had the opportunity to meet and visit with Gerardo last year when he came up for Fan Expo 2019. When these covers became available, I absolutely needed to add at least one to my collection.This piece shows Hawkman's warrior side stongly in the battle scars on his helm, and his fierce nature with mace, but at the same time hits the humanity of the character and the ancient battle weariness he could feel all in one. Gerardo's use of the strong blacks and the shadows moving into the light is incredible. Huge thanks to Cam at Inky Knuckles for hooking this up for me and as always making a it a completely smooth transaction. And honorable mention to fellow CAFer Ryan Sherwood - you know what you did! "Weariness" is a great word. Hawkman has been through a lot and that's definitely reflected. Emotive for sure. And the pure illustration is of course so good. The hatch-y lines mixed with tonal work - perfect. Congrats!
