DescriptionButch Guice was one of the names that got you excited with the fresh clean style that represented entering into the new decade of the 80's. From his Micronauts, New Mutants, Swashbucklers, X-Factor, Doctor Strange, Flash, Superman, Eternal Warrior, Resurrection Man, Ruse, Amber Blake, to Captain America and so much more, he picked up plenty of fans along the way. This was done on 8/23/83. It was between his Marvel Fanfare #9 portfolio 4/83 and right before his most high profile work yet with X-Men and the Micronauts #1 that came out 10/83. That year may have been my first year buying comics. And even though I've never met him, Butch Guice will forever hold a place in my comics fandom. RIP Butch. Social/Sharing |

This is GORGEOUS! And while distinctly Guice, has a small bit of Michael Golden. Incredible! Congrats Marcus!

I love those early sketches of his when his style was rounder. Great one!

I really loved his work when it first came out, channelling quite a bit of Golden's fluidity. And, many years later, I became a fan again of his more photorealistic style. He left us too soon. Great post. Thank you.

Roll out your bones and raise up your pitchers to Butch Guice. He was a fantastic artist right from the very beginning and he only got better as he went along. It's hard to believe he is gone.

Great example of both early Butch Guice and the charming character dynamics that made us all fall in love with the X-Men of that era and think of them ask family. Very fitting tribute to remember Guice's work--he created a lot of comic books that I really enjoyed.

Just fantastic - the proportions are great and the individual personalities of the four characters on the page are handled to perfection, just through great draftsmanship. Thanks for opening up the vault to share!

Butch Guice was a superstar! His work on everything from Action Comics and Captain America to X-Men and Micronauts was superlative. He excelled at composition, as well as anatomy, and was a splendid inker as well. I love this example of his early work. The compostion is very nice and the linework is smooth and fluid. Love the little teasing comment from Kitty Pride as well. You could hardly ask for a better example of Guice's early work than this. Great pick-up, congrats!
