DescriptionYou thought SDFC 2021 was over with their last drop on Friday, but the in person convention took place on 7/11/21. Hosted by Escapist Comics in Berkeley, CA the show had Felix, original artwork, comics, a guest artist, T-shirts, artist editions, masks, buttons, Black Widow trade paperbacks, a signed Wrightson print, and even a dragon.Here is the variant cover to Phoenix Resurrection #1 by Bilquis Evely I picked up at the convention. Plus bonus pics of the dragon and the show's founder. Fun fact: The book store itself used to be in a different location and hired an art school student named Mike Mignola to design an early logo for them. Social/Sharing |

The linework on this is insane! Evely is one of the most talented artists in the biz today! I'm glad you made it out alive considering there was a dragon guarding the entrance to SDFC this year!

Even her hair has the look of the elements... this piece reminds me that it truly took two to tango when it came to Phoenix.

"You always ruin everything! I hate you!" "Squuuaaaak! Screeeech!" Specks of spittle fly...I so dig the duality of Phoenix, and it's captured perfectly here. Evely's style is so original and full of emotion. I'm quickly becoming a big fan. And you beat out the dragon! Dragon-beater Marcus! Congrats!

This may be the first time anyone has ever illustrated the Phoenix force with a mind of its own, reacting to Phoenix herself. If it's been done before, I certainly haven't seen it! As Robert mentions up above, it's like a play on the schizophrenic like behaviour of Jean Grey/Phoenix. I would love to hear Evely explain what her thought process was with this one. Lovely, almost whimsical pencilling style. A great take on this classic character!

Bilquis is a rising star that I need to get a nice example of before she gets out of my price range. Whenever that happens, though, I doubt it will be as nice as the one you have here. Huge congrats!

Beautiful cover! Love the design in the hair, Phoenix aura, and costume shading. Cool take on the character as well with a different type than I've seen before for Ms. Grey. Yet another spectacular artist in Felix's stable I'll be following from now on

Awesome Phoenix Resurrection cover by Bilquis Evely. Very unique take on the Phoenix here--I don't think I've ever seen Phoenix screaming at her own Phoenix power before. The Phoenix symbolically is always depicted around her, attacking along with her. But to have her attacking her own Phoenix power seems different, seem like something new. A very unique take by the very unique Bilquis Evely.
