Description

It's no secret that I would easily be the one-man hype man for Ryan Quackenbush. I've said it before and and I'll say it again; he is a breath of fresh air in an industry of copycats and homage artists.

His work takes on multiple dimensions with the style and methods he uses to create his art. From applied textures, thatching, decoupage -- you name it. Plus most of the art is twice-up so it really has presence when seen with your own two eyes.

Ryan did this piece for fun and has had it in his portfolio for a while. During the last Phoenix comic-related show I picked it up and added it to my collection. Was just able to get a scan of it for showing to the world. :)

He has been published by Image comics, self published and he has other items in the works with Image and Dstlry. Comic Art House reps his work!

Ryan is certainly doing something distinct, unique, and with a fresh voice/perspective on form, layout, figure, and mixing up techniques. I'll bet your glowing review of him on the show and here sparks more interest in his work, I was checking out more right away!

The skull imagery is cool! The great exaggerated design along with the illustration techniques takes us back to the 70's paperback cover feel.
