I’ve always loved Jim Woodring’s work and recently bought a commission piece from him. While I was at it I also picked up a few preliminary pieces. This one is particularly interesting to me because it was partially inked
And clearly had been intended to be a final but Jim abandoned it before that stage.

It's great to see a Woodring at this point in the process. Lots to love about it.

I think the unfinished background adds additional depth and perspective. You can't go wrong with any Woodring, though, especially a Frank piece.

Oh jazz bands. Something tells me this one was close. Frank inked. Background gorgeously penciled. Intentional or not. Super dope image
