DescriptionGaar WilliamsMay 5th, 1932 Chicago Tribune Syndicate Depicting a dire warning about the Depression-era Job market. Gaar never failed to touch a nerve involving the sheer inconvenience of living - and trigger a laugh in the process. This illustration is unique in the form of the high jumper - appearing to do a stylized "Fosbury Flop" -some 39 years BEFORE Dick Fosbury invented his revolutionary and unique jumping style that has changed the sport of high jump ever since. Before the Fosbury Flop, the only methods to high jump over the bar (with one leg) was the Western Roll or straddle. Thank you Steve S. for sharing this wonderful opportunity for me. Social/Sharing |

I like the casualness of Gaar's panel transition here. Wish he'd done more sequential stuff.
