DescriptionUpdated with a better picture of the piece, it's framed so no scans for now!Super tight prelim by pinup master Al Rio. There's a finished piece floating around out there that was used for a print and in all honestly this prelim is not far off from the fully rendered piece. I'd love to own it as well but I'm very happy to have had this piece in the collection for as long as I have. Next to Steven Hughes, Al was my favorite Purgi artist. He just had such a dynamic and energetic line. He's sorely missed! Social/Sharing |

so you asked me what is your best Purgatori piece and I am going to start here. i adore Al Rio's work. i am fourtunate to have a Purgatori page by Al Rio but this sketch could be a cover. this page is that Good. i am unaware if it is the pencil or the paper that gives this piece its red tint but it fits the mood perfect. even the skulls on the bottom look like they were quickly done and they still look perfect. Al did you justice with this piece and I do miss Al's work. rip

It's all done in regular pencil lead. I framed it with a crimson red mat.

It's wild to take a over look of your gallery and see so many pieces by some of comics best talent from the past 30 years and to know this is one of your pieces framed on your wall. You have historical covers and this is a sketch. There is a reason I keep coming back to this piece. Because it's fucking beautiful. Also I liked the Red matting better. 3000
