DescriptionHere’s a unique original, it appears to be an unpublished sample for a Tarzan Daily Strip. The art is by Sam Glanzman (pencils & inks) and written by Joe Gill, the same team who did Charlton Comics’ short-lived and unauthorized Jungle Tales of Tarzan title in the mid-1960s. I asked Sam about the art and he replied as follows: ”The newspaper thing was something that never gelled. done for Charlton. I think Joe Gill wrote it.” That’s all he can remember about it so I can not put a date to the art unfortunately but it is definitely from the the 1960s.
In 1944, Charlton Comics, acting on the mistaken belief that the character had fallen into public domain, brought out an unauthorized comic book adaptation of Tarzan stories, called Jungle Tales of Tarzan. Sam Glanzman drew the title which ran for five issues, without the permission of The Estate Of Edgar Rice Burroughs, as while the stories themselves had indeed fallen out of copyright, Tarzan was still a trademark and the Burroughs estate lawyers quickly brought an end to the comic.
