Great to see that this painting was finished so nicely. I have the pencil prelim for a smaller size canvas that was not completed when you changed the size to 24 X 36. Who was the model for the Spider?

Was the one you had a color sketch? I always liked that. Someone once offered to sell it back to me. 
im not sure if I ever answered your question as to who was his model for the Spider. Same as the Shadow. William Magnar.

Victor, hi! DeSoto didn't use a model for this as far as I know. Then again I was in Pennsylvania and he was on Long Island at the time. He used my wife for two of them. Rafael used William Magnar for a lot of his assignments . I hope I spelled his name correctly. Magnar was also the model for the Shadow. I have one or two photos of him posing Rafael gave me. thanks!! Jack

Jack, the fact that any video exists at all is amazing, but it doesn't do the hobby and future generations any good if it isn't seen by anyone. Is there any way you could figure out how to upload the video you took of DeSoto online somewhere for people to see?

DeSoto's son currently has my Betamax tapes. I suppose at some point I will put them on DVD. I used to have a character I did on television. A comedic reporter so to speak. I have been meaning To put one episode on You Tube for six years now. The technology baffles me. Last time I tried it said "download time 8 hours." In the meantime, Ed Hulse did a feature on my interviews in his magazine Blood and Thunder. A few years ago. I've shown it at what used to be known as Pulpcon also to an audience which included Jim Steranko and a handful of other people that were interested. I'll see if I can make a DVD sometime. I understand where you're coming from on the technology baffling you. But I think your idea of at least taking that first step and just having one of those video transfer places put all the material from the Betamax tapes onto DVD, would be a good first step. Though keep in mind that even DVD could become obsolete in a few more years. Thanks!

You are totally right. I suppose I should ask his son for the master tapes. It's been several years. Did you see the other three Spiders I have posted?

Yes, getting the tapes back in the first place would be a good starting point. You never know what can happen and as long as they're in someone else's possession, they are always at risk of being permanently lost or destroyed. I HAVE seen the other paintings. You don't think people would chance upon a piece by an artist they like in someone's gallery and not bother to see what else they have, right? :)
