DescriptionBack in the roarin' 1990's lots and lots of Trimpe Hulk covers came available through Mitch Itkowitz and I was fortunate to pick-up quite a few but the small couple that I would have kept just didn't seem to surface. Fast forward many years later and up shows this beauty in the collection of Gentleman Jim Warden...I say collection as it simply was not for sale. Fast forward to last year when Jim found a reason to let this beauty go --I witnessed the deal between him and Bashful Mike Burkey right at my booth during the NYCC in October. Through some arm twisting, fast trading and puppy dog eye-action, I was able to convince Mikey to let this one go (kind of like when gum hits the ground and you apply the 3-second rule...well this cover had only been in Mike's hands for just a few seconds when I started workin' on him). But without further ado here's my favorite Hulk cover from Herb's run:Social/Sharing |

Great pickup Will... I can't tell from the scan, but does it still have indents from Mr. Burkey's fingers from when you pried it from his clenched hands?

Will, welcome back into the Trimpe Hulk Club. You just have to love how Herb always cut into the incredible Hulk logo. Also how the corner box has the Kane head and Kirby body as well as the old Block letters.

I remember the first time I saw this as a kid, when I got my run of all the Hulks from Astonish 59 to Hulk 166 -- this was one of those covers that blew me away. I didn't know who Maximus was, but I loved the way it was composed. I love the Severin-like inks Trimpe was doing then, and -- geez -- everything. Congrats.

That's a really cool cover! And, yes, I remember when Trimpe Hulk's were out en masse. Now, they seem rare to market (maybe someone's hoarding...) but either way it's nice to pick up a great one.

Ah, this was my first Hulk comic book back in the very early 70's. So one of the reason why, with the fact it's an awesome drawing, it is my all time favorite Hulk cover. Years later I missed this cover from some original art catalog, maybe Calvin and Eleanor Slobodian, maybe someone else; Years years later I asked Jim Warden to ask me if one day he will consider to sell this page. Years years years later he just forgot. Oh Jim how could you treat me this way ? Now it's in your hands, probably forever...snif. Congratulations Will !
