DescriptionMarvel has recently been digging deep to publish some hidden treasures by some of their most famous artists. With the re-launch of the Punisher with issue #1, they decided to put Mike Zeck in the spotlight and publish some of his lesser known (but spectacular) pieces as incentive covers. This was originally published in 1986 as the second portfolio plate in Editions Deesse's Punisher portfolio. That portfolio was limited to 999 copies. The portfolio was later reprinted in the US as an "unlimited" color portfolio. This art has now also been printed as the Zeck Variant cover for Punisher #2.This art was also used in 2015 as the cover to the remarqued edition of the Mike Zeck Artists Edition (only 100 copies of that book were sold). It's a prized piece in my collection and I'm glad to see it celebrated 32 years later as a cover. Exhibited in 2014 at the Mike Zeck "Raw Fury" exhibit at the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco. There are two variant editions of this book. The color version was released a 1:100 variant and the B&W was released as a 1:500 variant. One of my favorite Zeck Punisher images, even though we actually only see a portion of Frank’s face—so intense and hyper-realistic!

Great piece. Just listened to your episode with Felix Comic Art Podcast. Fantastic stuff. Love the Zeck art stories. I'm a huge Zeck fan as well. Would love to see those Punisher Limited Series covers. Thanks.
