Description

So here's another fine example of Brian Bolland's beautiful cover work for Grant Morrison's amazing run on Animal Man from the late 1980's and early 1990's. This version varies slightly from the finished cover, with the diver on the right being removed for the published version of this striking image. This was a very pro-animal rights issue in a very pro-animal rights run by Morrison, and I remember it generating a lot of interest in the comic community at the time, as this was a particularly moving issue. I love Bolland's tone with his pencils on the dolphins, some beautiful shading and texture that actually shows up better in this pencil prelim than the published cover. I was still 17 when this particular issue hit the stands, and Morrison's whole Animal Man run was a very formative reading experience for me. And of course, all of Bolland's covers were stunning, so it's nice to have a few of these now, including this particularly memorable issue. Got this off eBay from Malcolm Bourne, thanks!
