DescriptionFor those that don't know, Todd gave this cover to Peter David, the writer. At some point, a dealer from Florida got it from Peter David and it moved to Bill Woo thereafter. As for the cover itself-- I remember seeing it on the newstands and I couldn't wait to read it. This is a very memorable cover from my youth. I thought it was pure genius that Todd had the reflection of Hulk drawn in Wolverine's claws. Much thanks to my friend Bill Woo who was kind enough to send it my way a few years ago. Social/Sharing |

Wow, Joe, congrats. Someone once asked me what art I would want above all others (assuming that I just don't turn around and sell it) and my answer was this cover. Congrats on getting this. I don't use the word Grail but this one is up there for me.

Yes. This is a classic. I remember it just like you mentioned in the writeup. As I recall, Hulk was down and Wolverine turned his back and then knew he was back up to fight more.

Okay...it's official. I'm floored. Incredible cover. Iconic. Singular. Not shocked at all to see in your gallery. Do I sound envious? Hope so :)

So thank you Chris.Interestingly, I put this cover in the category of an iconic image that touches a deep nostalgic nerve in anyone who first saw it in on the shelves of their local comic shop. McFarlane being the artist is an added bonus for McFarlane fans...but, IMHO, it has a base level nostalgic value that appeals to a much broader base than just McFarlane collectors. Which all means that I remain envious :)

The absolute best non-Spidey McFarlane cover, and possibly the most homaged cover of the last 3 decades! A modern classic indeed! Congrats, and thanks for sharing! I'll add this one to my list of pieces I'll buy from Joe after I win the lotto! lol

This is definitely McFarlane's best Hulk cover, and Wiacek's inks worked so well with his pencils here. Congrats on obtaining it!

Trying to think of the right sound effect to put in my comment. What the hell sound does a nuclear explosion make anyway? LOL! By the way, I love how you hide all your top stuff and then, every once in a while, just to f__k with us, you throw one up. Oh, and make sure you bring this with you on your next visit so I can get you a better scan to replace this sad ass one you're using. Congrats buddy!

I've always thought of Todd as a great cover designer who truly understands layout. This cover is arguably his best cover design ever. Simple in it's approach but genius in it's execution. I'm glad you finally posted the cover publicly. All the best my friend. Cheers! N.

I had the pleasure of holding this one in my hands when you brought it to Metropolis if memory serves? I've been in the hobby a long time and have seen this image in it's endless iterations over the years but I still can't stop looking at it. McFarlane's most powerful piece of artwork from any period or title.

I'm ribbing you Joe, and you deserved it for ruining all our Christmases with this. All our gifts will pale in comparison. I know when my wife wonders why I'm sad about my gift I'm going to tell her "Joe Le got the Hulk 340 cover and all I got were these socks!" Bravo Joe, this is a collection unto itself.

Love this art! Always thought there was a Frank Miller (lone wolf & cub style)influence in Todd's inks. This is just one of the most iconic Marvel covers by any artist of that period. One of the things that made Todd so popular was the way he put the viewer right into the action, over the shoulder of a character or right up in their face. We take this kind of subjective action shots for granted now but when the hulk appeared in wolverine's blades, it was revolutionary! Thanks for sharing Joe. made my day.

There are some covers that strike you because they are well drawn and are memorable for that reason. Others persist in your mind because they have such an unusual, yet appealing layout, which makes you wonder why no one else had thought of it before. And yet another group of covers literally stun you with their lightning in a bottle creativity.
This is one of those extremely rare covers that combines all three. The best thing about it is that it couldn't be in the collection of a nicer guy. Congratulations on owning a very memorable piece of comics history.

It always cracks me up when I see No in the for sale description, as it just means no until you die (which I hope is a long way off. Just giving you a reality check.) as your nearest and dearest likely have little or zero interest in your passion. Probably Todds most famous cover. Others will argue a Spider-Man or Spawn.

hi Peter-- yes for sure, no one is taking this stuff to their graves. At least, no one that I know among my collector friends. And you are correct as well--- my kids have no interest in this stuff.
