DescriptionThe passion of my childhood and teen years was to complete my collection of silver and bronze age Spider-man comics. I was too young to read the Ditko and early Romita issues off the stands, but fell in love with the outstanding Lee/Romita/Mooney run first in reprints in Marvel Tales, and later as I filled in the collection over time. These books still stand up for me as among the greatest comics ever made. Only the price and availability of originals preclude silver age Spider-man artwork from being my primary collecting focus, as the comics themselves once were. As a collector of Gene Colan and Bill Everett's Black Widow pages from Amazing Adventures, I've long wanted a Romita/Mooney page from Spidey #86, where Natasha creates her new costume and launches her "modern" career. I've also long wanted heat vision, and unlimited power to control the space/time continuum... but wasn't holding out realistic hope for any of these wishes to come to pass. So, big thanks to collector Kirk Dilbeck, a swell guy, for working with me on this one, after outbidding me on it earlier this year! This page, featuring Romita's gorgeous Natasha discarding her 1965-1969 fishnets costume and flashing back to her past, is almost a perfect storm of elements that appeal to me as a collector and life-long comics fan. If another page from this issue with the Back Widow in her "new" skintight black costume were to surface, that would be great, too! Anything's possible, right? Social/Sharing |

putting John Romita and Jim Mooney on Spider-Man was one of the best things Stan Lee ever did!

Wow Drake. That is some page. One of the better Romita Spider-man pages from that period. And it doesn't hurt that I love fish nets.

Had to take another long look at this work of beauty! The pairing of Romita and Mooney delivered BIG TIME!
That huge panel featuring Natasha, Hawkeye and the Crimson Dynamo is far superior (in my opinion) to the cover that sported that issue. CONGRATULATIONS !!!!

Short of an all Romita art page,Jim Mooney was the best at finishing John Romita art. You have a wonderful page on your hands and we all thank you for sharing.

Gotta love Romita & Mooney, and the amazing Black Widow -- and in her original costume. Obvious why Hawkeye and the Swodsman were ape over her!

Black Widow short origin page, by Romita. What more could one want? it is sometimes inconceivable to me that more of this stuff is not permanently being displayed in museums. Congrats.

I absolutely love the old Black Widow costume. So retro and so cool. Also love Hawkeye and Iron Man on the same page. What a gorgeous page.

She is not flashing even though shes undressing. What a cheat early Marvel artwork is. Did you say flashback? She doesn't even flash that.
