DescriptionThe Multiversity was a fun (self-contained) event in which all of Grant Morrison's obsessions translated positively on paper (whereas I've found that his-over-meta comments on the topic of super heroes has sometime become a bit too heavy since he brilliantly introduced it in Animal Man). Now to be frank, I basically only bought this page for the presence of (Multiverse) Etrigan the Super Demon as I couldn't/wouldn't really afford the pricey splash on the page before at the time. Etrigan showcasing laser vision in panel two is fun and so is the 4rth panel with him standing in full in front of a human sized mother box, complete with lotsa Kirby crackles. I also loved the more vaporous (re)design of Ragman here. But it is the last 3 panels sequence which makes the page sing for me. Super Demon retreating in the shadows while rhyming is simply both excellent and terrifying (even more in b&w I'd say), especially that final panel with the hellfire widening his frightening grin. Brillant details by the always fantastic and solid Ivan Reis, the modern George Perez of the DC playground. Finally I also love the overall simple symmetry of the layout of the page. Social/Sharing |

Fading back into the darkness like Homer Simpson going back into the bushes except with a sinister smile befitting a demon. He knows this meeting is over and it's better to leave without any awkward goodbyes.

"Super" Demon? Clearly I don't know anything about what's going on here, so I'll just refer to him as The Demon. But yes, he is my favourite part of this page as well. Etrigan always makes things more interesting. Although Reis set up the middle panel to be the money shot, it is definitely the bottom tier of panels that indeed, sing!

Etrigan the Super-Demon? Ok, I have some reading to do. I am a big Demon fan, and that sounds incredible. I'm guessing he possesses Kal? What an idea. And the amorphous, mummified Ragman is an interesting design concept, too. I can see why you wanted this Reis page so much. Congrats!

Wicked cool page by the ever-excellent Reis/Prado team. I think what might help make those last 3 panels land with such definition is the Yin/Yang nature of the page...? Those top 3 panels and the left half of panel 4 feel "light" to me (even with the delineation of Ragman's multiple "bandages"), and the right half of panel 4 and the bottom 3 panels are, of course, the opposite... Or maybe it's just that The (Super!) Demon's grinning countenance is one of the coolest character designs in comics; it curls your toes with gleeful abandon. Whatever the reason(s), it's a wonderfully detailed page with a great narrative flow and super (Demon!) character touches. Awesome page, F M! Congrats!
