Description

Love all the Byrne tryout early works. Stuff like the Fantastic Four 40 pencil pages to the Godzilla DPS, and now these Marvel and DC tryout pages. It's amazing to see the development and how far Byrne has come as an artist today, particularly if you take a gander at his currently still unpublished X-Men: Elsewhen pages. Byrne made note of this battle page, "Vindicator goes back to my college days, when he was called the Sentinel, and then the Guardian... I created him in 1970 or 1971... In fact, somewhere Duffy Vohland, I think, has a badly colored page that has Vindicator battling Captain America that dates from those early days."

This one came with blank captions and word balloons, soooooo I couldn't help but fill ‘em in! I don’t have photoshop or some cool comicbook font, so I just made do with a Pages app. You should try it, it's fun! ;)

For a Byrne collector, this is a very unique page from his early days. Thanks much for posting this image and for continuing to show your collection. 135 pieces and counting!
