Description

Mark told me that this was done for a proposed animated version of Robert E. Howards' Red Nails. He was brought on board to do some illustrations depicting key moments from the story. I fell in love with this the moment I laid eyes on it. The feel of motion in the struggle between Conan and the Crawler is wonderful. The sense of depth which Mark captures with the wolf pencil is just amazing. Mark told me that he felt a more amphibian look to the Crawler would have been his preference, but the producers wanted it to look like an alligator. A beautiful work from one of my favorite Conan stories. Mark is my favorite artist working today. My scanner does not do this piece justice. Flat out, one of the best pieces in my collection.
