DescriptionI loved this cover when I first saw it in print - but always assumed it was tucked away in someone's collection, never to be seen again.Imagine my surprise when I found it on Albert Moy's table during the Baltimore con. I was eyeing some other pieces by Kaare when I stumbled upon this. I then assumed it was way out of my price range – close, but not quite. Kaare Andrews' run of Hulk covers left quite the impression on me. And this one – an homage to Maurice Sendak's "Where the Wild Things Are" – was always my favorite. I guarantee this is the closest I will ever come to owning a piece of Sendak art. EDIT: I was wrong. The image is pen and ink under ink wash and watercolor. The colors were slightly tweaked in the final version. (Grey Hulk is a little more grey. Green Hulk's pants are purple.) And the Banner in the Max suit was replaced with Banner in a lab coat. Needless to say, this one is headed for the wall. Social/Sharing |

I have seen several of the homage covers that have been used on Hulk over the past several years, and I'm always surprised at how well they work. Whether it's the poster for Apocalypse Now, Norman Rockwell's "Runaway" or, as here, Maurice Sendak's most famous work, it's amazing how easy it is to project the Hulk & Banner's personae onto these American cultural touchstones and how they change or enhance the original. Congratulations on acquiring this and let the Wild Rumpus begin.

I am so jealous. I heard this was sold at the Baltimore convention and I kick myself for not finding it before you. ;-) Congrats on getting it.

Simply put, a great cover. One of the most creative analogies between two iconic pop cultural properties. Just brilliant. On of the most unique Hulk covers of all time.

A fitting tribute to one of the most imaginative stories ever! "Where the Wild Things Are" transcends time. It was read to me when I was a young little girl, and now I read it to my little girls! A fantastic cover, in every right!

This is not the Hulk at all. It's from Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak, and shouldn't be honored on this site. It's pure and simple plagiarism or thievery.

Absolutely. I’ll gladly take possession and ensure it never sees the light of day.
Don't worry. It's safe on my wall. I'll make sure no one sees it.
