Description

Finally added my first Mignola to the collection. Small, but mighty.

I knew I wanted something from the 90s, something spooky, and lots of black ink. This checks all those boxes. The BW illustration is apparently published in one of the TPBs and The Art of Hellboy. (And was first released into the wild as a prize from Wizard Magazine.)

And as much as I love that, I was sold on the addition of the wonderful color head sketch of Hellboy. I love the juxtaposition of the fine color hatching with Mignola's deep, rich black inks.

This is great. Congrats. Glad you won it. Had a dealer won it, they would have probably cut it into two pieces and sold them separately.

Like the head shot on this. And love his choice to do the red in cross hatch instead of just coloring it in.

I'd never seen a head sketch done like this. That's part of the reason I grabbed it.

Great piece, Mike! I'm curious if you know the origin of the head sketch? It's a rare one for that era where Mike not only drew something, but he also colored it (medium colored pencil?).

I assume it came that way as part of the Wizard contest package? Maybe the original owner will chime in at some point.
