DescriptionBack in 2008, I found this wonderful cover by Kaare Andrews. At the time, I said I was certain it would be the closest I would come to owning an original by Maurice Sendak.I was wrong. Not only do I now have a Sendak original hanging on my wall, but it's a Where the Wild Things Are original as well. Sendak and his illustrated books were a huge part of my childhood. I remember getting lost in the detailed lines of his illustrations. To own something by his hand is truly special to me. Exhibited at the Society of Illustrators and published in the 2013 "Maurice Sendak: A Celebration of the Artist and His Work," this preliminary work was a study for the entrance to an installation in San Francisco. Signed in the lower right. All the Wild Things are there, as is Max, and ready for the Wild Rumpus. Social/Sharing |

Wonderful work that is so welcoming into that world of imagination that we all experienced as children. Reading it as an adult hits you differently.

Magnificent Mike. Wow is right. Can't think of a more touchstone work for generations of kids, and how many became lovers of art (probably subconsciously) through that book. Count me in that number.
