DescriptionI still can't believe I actually own this. When I first saw this DPS in the published comic, I was amazed! I thought it was really some of McNiven's finest work ever. I immediately signed onto CAF to see which of the "Old Man Logan" super-collectors had acquired it. To my surprise though, it wasn't featured in anyone's gallery. That made me sad, as I was sure that it was now locked away in the collection of someone who wasn't a CAF member, and I'd never get the chance to see the original art. When the prelim came up for sale, I jumped on it, thinking it would be my only chance to acquire any art from these pages. I told Spencer that I would be interested in any other roughs for the pages, and he mentioned that the original art to them had just come back if I was interested. I was THRILLED! I've been looking for a nice "Old Man Logan" page since the story began, but all the really good ones are always snapped up immediately. I finally have one of my OML grail pages though, and it's a DPS at that. The flashback pages are my favorites, and IMO they don't come cooler than this one. This DPS shows the X-Men after Wolverine has been tricked by Mysterio into killing them all. For the record, that's Cyclops, Colossus, Psylocke, Havok, Gambit, Nightcrawler, Polaris (it's Polaris in the published version, and is the White Queen here. The outfit was slightly modified at some point before printing, since Emma appears alive and well later in the story, so she couldn't have been killed here), Longshot, Storm, Cannonball, Iceman, Forge, Beast and Jubilee. This event is the whole basis for the "Old Man Logan" story. The art really allows you see all the gory details that were lost in its published form. The inking is fantastic! Interestingly, the inker on these pages was Mark Morales rather the inker of the rest of this series, Dexter Vines. The prelim for this DPS, which is slightly different from this piece, can be seen elsewhere in my gallery.Social/Sharing |

Friggin' amazing! Congrats Tom. I was wondering if McNiven was selling this spread or locking it away. Great find and morbidly amazing DPS!

Impressive piece. I too thought this one was being kept by Steve or Mark since it never showed. Congrats on tracking this one down.

To me, the really interesting thing about this DPS is that it has such a dynamic feel even though no one is moving (obviously). McNiven's use of blacks to draw the eye outward and his particular pattern of splatter on the wall makes it feel as if everything is coming out at you. A really nice DPS by one of the best working artists today. Congratulations on a terrific acquisition!

Just an insanely macabre piece, Tommy. If I ever get the chance to visit Chateau Garvey, I need to check this piece out. I have an affinity for well-inked pages, and this page looks to have one of the best inking jobs I've ever seen.
