DescriptionDURING WW II, IN 1943, LEW SCHWARTZ [LATER TO BE KNOWN TO US ALL AS A BATMAN ARTIST] DID THIS PAINTING OF BUGS BUNNY FOR VP-1, A NAVAL BOMBARDMENT SQUADRON.THIS IMAGE WOULD HAVE BEEN USED ON THE NOSE OF AIRPLANES, PATCHES FOR THE SQUADRON, LETTERHEAD, ALL SORTS OF USES. NORMALLY THESE WERE DESTROYED WHEN A UNIT MOVED ON. OCCASIONALLY ONE WAS SENT UP THE CHAIN OF COMMAND, AND THESE FEW, NOW RESIDE IN VARIOUS ARMED FORCES MUSEUMS. OTHER TIMES THE ART WAS SENT HOME.
