Sometimes just liking the Mad Hatter can lead to strokes of luck. At the Big Apple Comic Con, I walked by Tommy's huge booth and saw a lot of Alice/Hatter-themed art for sale. Most of it was just prints, and normally unless I have space to display a signed print, I don't buy one. But I talked to Tommy a bit and asked if he was doing any sketches. He was on the fence about it until I said I only collect the Mad Hatter. He said he'd do it!

When I came by to pick it up, we talked about it a little. The Hatter is one of his favorite characters and that's really the big reason he took the commission. If it was someone like Iron Man or whatever, he said he wouldn't have been interested.

But I think the piece looks great, and he took some time really crafting the colors and design. Great guy, and a nice piece of work - and all because of luck!
