DescriptionI've wanted a sketch by Adam Hughes for a long time, so I was thrilled to win the eBay auction for the Saturday Sketch at San Diego Comic-Con 2009. After winning the auction, I felt a bit like the proverbial dog that finally catches the speeding car: "Ok, what now? Black Cat, Mary Jane, Supergirl, Wonder Woman, Rogue, Jean Grey, Catwoman…?"It was no easy task to choose a single character for the commission, but I finally decided to go with Emma Frost. I asked for Adam to sketch her in her White Queen Hellfire Club ensemble, dangling Cyclops’ glasses or visor and saying, “Oh, Scott..” or something enticing along those lines. I stopped by Adam’s booth a couple of times during the day on Saturday and was able to see the work in progress at each interval. It was great to see the piece take shape from the first outline of the character to the inks and then the background. I also got to pitch Adam on attending Mid-Ohio-Con at some point in the future, so that was an added bonus. The humidity of the convention center was having an effect on the way the inks were drying, so Adam actually ended up finishing the piece at his studio in Atlanta after returning from Comic-Con. It was well worth the wait since I’m very very pleased with the final result. Social/Sharing |
