DescriptionSerendipity rules! I got the book written on this artist of artists, Roy Wilson over a decade ago and fell in love with one of his works called Smarty, who is a cat. Quelle surprise. Some of Roy Wilsons original reference drawings were published in the book and I lusted after them (as you do) without any expectation of ever owning any. I bought all of the original comics Smarty appeared in. A comic called TV fun. Fast forward to this year and Alan Clark who wrote that book was listing some Roy Wilson artwork for sale and I asked him if he had any Smarty art for sale and I got these and a lot of other art by Roy. MADE MY YEAR IN ONE GO. Think a story you like and imagine how happy you would be if you got their original sketches and think how happy you would be and multiply it by ten. Will not put them all up. Got heaps and my grail may not be yours. Lol.Social/Sharing |

More Cats?! Lacking originality with this one.. On the flip side, almost anything from the 1950s is awesome including THIS!

I buy according to my obsessions. We all do. Try explaining your artwork to people who have no interest in art and watch their eyes glaze over. Lol. Seriously though, get the book on this guys artwork written by Alan Clark and prepare to get your mind blown at how good he was. Needless to say he did not only draw cats. He's a genuine British comics legend.

They do not do much for me (just as I am sure a lot of my stuff has no appeal to you) but it is always a cause for celebration when someone picks up a personal Grail so Congrats!

That's the joy of collecting. If everyone liked the same things life would be even more boring than it is. Most people live in Groundhog Day. We all do to some extent. This makes the day interesting even if the rest of it is on repeat.

Well said. And yes, my life is verrrry boring. I can, however, admire the draftsmanship. Reminds me a little of Korky from The Dandy, which is a reference most non-UK comic fans will not understand.

Make it over to Ireland and I can bore with the best as you look at my ultimately pointless collection of paper with marks on it and we have a chat on how we slipped into our little niche field. Lol. I actually do not talk about my hobbies with many people. They have their own eye glazingly boring hobbies they want to talk to me about. Life is rather funny in a dark way.

You may well live to regret your offer as I am renowned for eating like a horse, drinking like a fish, farting like a hero, and always outstaying my welcome. Just as soon as I can clear up the house a bit so that every single flat surface is not piled high with comics/books/magazines/newspapers then I would be happy to extend the same invitation to you. I will give you a shout when I am ready. In the meantime I had better draw this to a close because the sound of every other CAF member reading this and screaming “Get a room!” is deafening.

I seem to remember flat surfaces. They are what you rest stuff on that you have intentions of sorting out. I got really happy when I cleared three or four feet of space recently. Now all I have to do is fill it in again. By the way, other than about five people, anyone who collects artwork I am happy to talk to. Theres more good than bad in the hobby.

Five people?! I really must get out more. I am on only the one. Oh well, it is quality and not quantity and mine is a doozy. I think you might even know them or at least know of them. I had better leave it at that. Sorry.

congrats on the personal grail achievement (achievements?) and the bounty of art you were able to pickup. I learned about something I didn't already know about too, which is a nice bonus of checking out CAF on a regular basis.

It always makes me happy when I see someone getting what seemed like an impossibility. Its only happened to me a couple of times. Hope you have got yours already or will get it.
