DescriptionThis is what you get when you add the following ingredients...1. An unusual commission request since your wife adores birds. 2. A great artist who also enjoys birdwatching. 3. A very helpful art rep in Allen Spiegel Fine Arts. My wife and I were completely blown away with the results of this. Even better, she had no idea that I had asked for this. Dave abolutely knocked it out of the park. Colors are really vibrant, lovely textures, and the peacock seems to have a little bit of an attitude as well. As always, very appreciative of the time and efforts of Dave to create this, and for Allen in helping make it all come together. Social/Sharing |

This is just beautiful! He's one of the best artists out there...and this piece is a great example of why.

I don't disagree at all. Absolutely adore his work and the diversity of subject matter that's he's willing to create art for.

Thanks buddy. Look forward to showing it to you in person soon... assuming I can get the permission slip from the wife. ;)

That's a great pick up! Comic Con is more than it used to be as we come to appreciate and explore possibilities of what it could mean for each of us individually beyond just picking up something for the collection to picking up something that is more personal and memorable.

Thank you. I agree that it has been more fun to throw out different ideas, especially since I have gotten my original goal of getting all of the Endless from the Sandman books from him. I also think it gets his creativity going as well since it's not a normal request and happens to be a passion of his. Win win scenario for sure. :)

Thanks for the excellent scan (or photo). So nice to see those incredible textures. This is absolutely stunning. I can only imagine your wife's reaction.

Thank you Eric! Yes, she was definitely stunned when I got the pics from Allen. I was originally going to try and wait to show her when it was in hand, but I wanted to share right away. If there's a next time, I might make her wait... lol.
My pleasure with the larger scan. I actually found larger scans of the Delerium and Despair pieces from Dave, and will try to get them uploaded soon.

I never thought I would be commenting on a peacock on CAF, but wow, this is just fabulous! The colors and textures are off the charts good, and the bird looks like it is literally ready to turn its head and start its peacock dance. It is amazing how the more unusal commission requests sometimes provide the most bang for your buck!
Congrats to you and your wife on what is really an amazing piece of fine art!

Thanks for the comment, David. I actually have another piece that I'll post relatively soon, but it is cool with how people have reacted to the peacock. They have been along the lines of "they're great, but I can't stop looking at the f****** peacock!".
I think the coolest thing is how he comes up what becomes the final piece with literally no input / guidance beyond saying I would like to have whatever subject I requested.

So now that you broke the ice, you can leave a comment on another one in my Gallery ;) Congrats on this great commission, Will, you can't expect anything less from such an amazing artist!

Awesome piece, by one of the greats. I always enjoy seeing their booth at con and the McKean goodies. Almost got his original cat piece they had on display.

Thanks! Wish I could have attended this year just to see the goodies there. Hopefully it'll happen in 2023. It's been a little while for me, and definitely miss SDCC.

Not surprisingly, an absolute stunner of a piece (even as "demure" as this peacock pose is)! It's been wonderful to hear of all of these fellow birdwatchers in comics in the last few years. Congratulations to you and your wife.

Exquisite! Who would have thought Dave McKean knew how to paint a peacock? Nevertheless, it is a gorgeous painting. The pose is perfect, the colors are rich and luminous, and the overall effect is jawdropping. Congratulations to you and your wife.
