DescriptionCharles Vess had to rush off to Scotland. He had promised to send a Spider-Man drawing but it would now have to wait."Sorry but in a rush for leaving to Scotland. I've not been able to finish your Spidey drawing. I will do a grand job when I return. Sorry about the delay" ----Charles Vess This was written on a post card. More remarkable was what he used for that postcard.Turning the postcard over you find the delicious art work from Amazing Spider-Man 277. Charles cut two panels off the next to last page of his story and used the back to write the message and mail off. The post mark on the card stamped 1986. I reached out to Charles recently to see if he could remember more about how this came about. This was his short but revealing response. Michael, Very interesting. I have no memory of doing this but that doesn't mean I didn't. Yes, that is pencil artwork for two panels from my short 13 page story Spider-man story Cry of the Wendingo Enjoy!--- {Charles Vess} Social/Sharing |

Remarkable story and piece of history . I don't have to tell you how rare original published Vess Spiderman stuff is . I'd put it on the endangered species list if it were an animal. Congrats . I was eyeballing this one on eBay myself 😜.

You're the master of postcards. In a digital and cold world, the nostalgia and personalization of a handwritten letter is always a gift. Someday you have to tell me how you got Ditko's letter, that's a treasure. Congrats my friend.

It was such a pleasure meeting you at the LA art show this past weekend. Seeing this in person and receiving the oral history behind it made such a great story. It just goes to show that the artists in the 1970s and 1980s did not see the full value of the material that they produced. Cutting up these pages was not a big deal. D'Oh!

Vess' Black-suit Spidey is truly grand!
I put Charles Vess on the Mount Rushmore of Spidey artists!
Congrats Michael !
