DescriptionBill Everett large 11x16 Submariner drawing 1965 done for a classmate and friend of Bill's daughter Wendy Everett. The young man packed the drawing away when he went off to college. I am glad to say I am now the fortunate curator of this historic and lovely piece of excellence. It's one of three wonderful drawings originally obtained by Wendy's classmate. There is a Namora/Human Torch drawing in Mark Levy's gallery. This Submariner. I have one more drawing in my possession that will blow your mind when I post so stay tuned. The Submariner drawing is a stunner, drawn to fill up the 11x16 sketch paper. That perfectly quaffed hair. The chiseled jaw and chin, reminiscent of Kirk Douglas without the dimpled chin. Those zany bathing briefs you wouldn’t get caught dead wearing at the beach today. The classic waist belt with the letter N emblazoned dead center. The arched eyebrows, the crossed muscular arms across his chest. Powerfully drawn thighs and special attention given to the hero’s winged foot. The steely gaze of arrogance and disapproval especially attributed to his character. Then my eyes lock in on Bill Everett’s gorgeous signature drawn to the left of the page. This drawing by Bill is published in the CFA/APA #118 which is sold out. It is also featured on the inside back cover of the magazine. The article is entitled "The Bill Everett Treasure Hunt Gets to the Heart of a Genius" and is written by yours truly Michael Kenyon. Hard copies of most all issues including this one are kept at Columbia University.I'm afraid they don't have digital copies. I am so grateful to have enjoyed a most heartfelt and eye opening collaboration with Wendy Everett to help write the article.Together I think we were able to shed new insight into her father. Today he is a hero to many comic and comic art fans. Back then he was just Wendy's father.... a human being.....admirable....uniquely gifted....flawed like any other human. She absolutely loved seeing this drawing I hope you love the drawing. This is a high resolution scan and many thanks to Tom Kraft from The Jack Kirby Estate for scanning it for me. Social/Sharing |

It's quite a treasure! Born out of that age of fantasy and science fiction, Everett could have went in any direction with the character as a foundational core of Timely comics. The complexity of the character through the years made him one of the most intriguing and most enduring, being brought back for good in the Silver Age. The light shade from being aged in a frame adds to the vintage look of this classic depiction in Everett's elegant pencil line. Done with a grace befitting of a monarch.

Something about this absolutely resonates of the time and era that this serene King reigned supreme. Fantastic!

What a great story and even more wonderful depiction of my all time fav hero. Having a sketch from Everett's hand on a charcter he created is very special and rare. This is very dear due to its back story . Take care of it and enjoy it everyday . This would be in my living room hung up to be looked at with distinction and honor everyday . Congrats my friend .
