DescriptionMany collectors were surprised when this key Micronauts cover popped up on eBay last month after the original owner of 30 years passed away. His wife had no idea that these “comic drawings” were valuable but seeing the intense bidding, she had to admit his passion for comics and Japanese toys wasn’t so crazy after all!To me, Micronauts #35 stood out as a special double-sized issue (and memorable pink cover) that told the origin of the Microverse and its fabled heroes for the first time. Bob Layton delivers an iconic shot of the core team (Bug, Commander Rann, Marionette, Microtron, Acroyear and Devil) with an incredibly detailed cosmic backdrop. The Micronauts originate from the Microverse-- a microscopic universe aka “Inner Space” full of strange planets like the human-inhabited Homeworld made up of diverse spherical habitats that are linked together in the fashion of a molecular chain. Now that the Microverse made its MCU appearance in the Ant-Man (2015) film, who knows what’s next for the Micronauts? Social/Sharing |

I've always wondered who won that Ten-Speed Racer. Oh, great cover by the way! WOW!

Not so much on the comic, but on the OA I definitely see an homage to Star Wars #1. The layout, the droid, Death Star... it's all there!

That color scheme worked for Uncanny 138 and it works here. We take for granted these cover designs because that's how many of them are now created to be movie poster style or for trade paperback compilations. Back then, it would only be for special occasions.

One of those covers where the OA looks so much better than the published cover. Fantastic pickup.

Is the ten-speed racer tiny, too? I sure hope it came with the cover!! This is just awesome. I love the jam packed microverse background, the whole cast, the molecule ship...everything about this. Covers like this are why I started collecting in the 80s. You scored again, man. Microscopic congrats!

Great find, Dino! Seeing how much is packed into a page like this always baffles me into trying to understand the artist's mind how they thought of it all and then executed the concept. Really amazing!
On a different note, it is a sad story how something like this was an enigma to the wife. She probably thought he was wasting his money and the OA could have easily gone in the trash or been sold for a few $$ at the local store. This is an important message that all collectors NEED to let their loved ones know what their collection could be worth and to not take it for granted should the unfortunate event come where they are left trying to figure out what you had.

Outstanding cartoony detail from end to end! Super effective as a cover - you can't help but open the book up! Congrats!
