Description

Ron Garney is one of those guys without whom comics wouldn't work. He knows anatomy, draws big powerful figures and can tell a story rather well. The big publishers know this and Ron Garney may be the most under the radar guy to have ever worked on major titles at both Marvel and DC, including Amazing Spider-man, Civil War related books and JLA.

In establishing the a film noir feel for this piece, Garney abandoned his usual fine lined approach to inking and instead used thick shadows to define forms. The result is a real dark moody iconic cover, which to my eye, is perfectly suited to the Batman.

Thanks to Magnificent Mike Shuley for selling this piece to me. Mike packed this piece (it came framed with UV glass, etc.) so well that it could have been dragged from the back of the truck on its way here, and nothing would have happened to it.

Ron Garney is definitely not known enough. This is another proof of his huge talent. Congrats for that great cover, a beautiful acquisition !

This art tells a heckuva story from making me wonder why's he in a graveyard to what's going on with the shovel. It's a beautiful cover that makes me want to read what's inside the comic instead of just being simple eye candy. Although it is very pleasing to the eye. ;) Congrats, i love it!

Beautiful design.... With the 'bat ear' motif 'triangulated' in the shovel, Batman, and the batmobile..... But above all the artistic technique here is just amazing..... A mighty fine piece of art!!!

This is a great piece and certainly lives up to the name of the Dark Knight. Even though Garney is more known for his Marvel work, this will stick in my head as one of his best.
