Description

Wright achieves so much in so little space � the rather emotionless moment of panel one followed quickly by the obvious movement and sudden emotion of panel two followed as quickly by the background machinations of panel three. Next, there is the lighting of each panel, subtlety different and supportive of the shifting mood, coupled with the shifting movement of the positions of the snarky men in the background. And finally, of course, there are the folds of that dress.

The staging in each panel is terrific! My favorite touch is that minute but clearly satisfied face lurking in the background in the first panel

It always amazes me how much David Wright can accomplish in three panels of a comic strip that features almost no action and very little movement. But somehow, he manages to tell a very involved story and makes you feel the emotions of the characters. He's a master of the comic art medium so he knows how to stage a scene and how shift the readers' POV subtly to keep our interest up and to move the story along. His inking is phenomenal and helps him create a realistic look to the characters and the scenes. Carol Day is one comic strip that stands above the rest in its powerful execution. Great pick-up, congrats!
