Apparently Jack brought some of Julie Schwartz back with him to Marvel. "Put a gorilla on the cover...everyone loves gorillas!"

Tom -- CONGRATULATIONS on this fun, terrific Kirby cover! Great action with the whole team and a memorable story from my youth. Wonderful stuff.

The Fantastic Four fighting a giant glowing gorilla, drawn by Jack Kirby! Yep, it doesn't get any better than this!

Hey! Is this beauty a swipe of the KING KONG movie poster from 1976? Or did this cover influence the Movie poster? Somebody get Steven Fishler on the Bat phone please! This is such a dynamic cover with the team desperately trying to bring down the beast. Say, is that Sue Storm in hand or Jessica Lange? Magnificent!

It doesn't get better than this! Pulse-pounding action and the way any bronze age fan will always remember the Fantastic Four! It is simply awe-inspiring the way Kirby and Sinnott captured the fluidity of the battle and motion of action in displaying that moment. The small lines around Ben's fist getting ready to clobber along with the lines showing him jumping in to deliver the punch; the lines extending from Reed emphasizing his speed as wraps around the gorilla and tries to aid Sue; and the trail of Johnny's flame behind him and his fire blast into the gorilla ... all of these small touches animating the scene in our minds. (not to mention the pulsating glow around the giant gorilla). This is the stuff that captured us for a lifetime!

All that and the iconic masthead featuring the Four circled portraits all spell Bronze-Age greatness!
