Description

Karate Kid vs. Grace Choi by Matthew Clark and Simon Gough

I'm pretty sure that the first time I saw Matthew Clark's art was on an issue of Wonder Woman, and I thought that he was pretty good. A couple years later, I followed his runs on Inhumans and Adventures of Superman and watched him grow into an amazing talent. His runs on Outsiders and Doom Patrol were fantastic and some of my favorite comics ever. So yeah, he's been on my wish list for a while for a commission. And once Matthew agreed to a "Karate Kid vs." piece, I knew that I had to get him to draw Grace Choi as the opponent, since I love his take on her. And man oh man did Matthew blow me away when he sent me the layout and the scenario where they're fighting in the air in the Legion era Metropolis! He put some thought into it and came up with a logical scenario for these two, where it looks like the Outsiders have visited the future, and Grace has had a few too many cups of Kono Juice before challenging Karate Kid to a fight. Then Matthew delivered some gorgeous pencils and awesome inks with a ton of detail and I just fell in love with this commission. Then I sent it over to Simon Gough, who always makes these commissions pop with gorgeous color, and this time was no exception. The figures look fantastic. I think that Simon could color Karate Kid in his sleep at this point, and Grace looks amazing. The reds in her hair and outfit really stand out. And look at that background! All those bright lights! And that flying taxi that Matthew drew looks so cool. So yeah, big thanks to Matthew and Simon for this stellar commission!

I love Grace, and I know that she's got Amazon blood, with strength, speed and endurance far beyond a normal human's. But . . . she's a brawler. Val Armorr has her totally outclassed in fighting skills. Now that doesn't mean he'll have an easy time defeating her. Far from it, actually. Grace is as tough as they come, and will get up every single time you knock her down. So Val's going to have to knock her out somehow, or wait until she passes out.

If you like this piece then please do go buy some books featuring Matthew's work in either physical or digital format.

I love the angles & perspective. A great idea for a match-up beautifully executed
