DescriptionThis was my last sketch from Flame Con, and I was lucky to get it from Phil as it was the last half hour of the convention.Queen Atomia is a rather obscure Golden Age villain and one of my favorites from Wonder Woman's rogues gallery. Atomia is the ruler of a subatomic universe and planned to take over the world one atom at a time. She controlled armies of anthropomorphized protons and electrons. Atomia was seemingly reformed at the end of her first appearance thanks to the power of Aphrodite. The entire story was supposed to be a metaphor for the dangers and benefits of atomic energy, with the reformed Atomia using her armies to help cure sick children. Keep in mind this was right after World War II. She had one Silver Age appearance which was just a rehash of her original story, only now the ending involved her swearing revenge on Wonder Woman from her subatomic world. Amazingly, Atomia was used as one of the villains in the original "Legend of Wonder Woman" miniseries by Kurt Busiek and Trina Robbins. I used one of the covers for Atomia's reference. I just read Legend of Wonder Woman last week so I finally got to read a story about Atomia! Also, this is lovely. Phil does such awesome convention sketches!
