DescriptionFor those wondering where this beauty resides, well, with me.When my chance for a Dave commission arrived, I asked him to re-do the then-missing Sheena cover, as I knew he had long wanted to do. As he was nearing the finish of what I call Sheena Redux, the original appeared on eBay. I slapped a close-out bid on it and called Dave and the pocket TRex (Steve Morger). Dave got it back, and asked me which piece I preferred. I was thrilled, and said the original, if he was willing to part with it. It's framed and on my wall, and reminds me of the man with the smile that was both rakish and shy at the same time. PS. I got the Redux later. Social/Sharing |

Damn, Jim! One of the legendary stories of the hobby. I am so happy to see you post this. One of Dave's very greatest works.

This comic is a classic 80s indy craze. Stevens was a master and this cover is not only memorable but iconic from that period. Huge congrats!

This was my first 3D comic ever, and the 3D plus this astounding cover made this just about the coolest comic book my ten year old brain had ever seen. Jealous!

It's artwork like this (or lack thereof) that separates the elite collectors from everyone else in the hobby. And I would know, because I'm in the everyone else group.

Appreciate the compliment buddy. But it wouldn't matter even if my entire collection made you swoon. I still don't have a single piece that comes anywhere close to touching this one. It's in a class by itself, and so are you.

Dave Stevens told me in person at a con that he wanted to sculpt Irish McCalla as Sheena. He sent a postcard that he hadn't drawn Irish McCalla yet as he was looking for the perfect pose. After he passed, his friend told me Dave was going to draw Irish based on her nude photos taken by Alberto Vargas (Irish made Vargas promise not to publish the photos. He kept his word. After Vargas passed, a collector found a few photos, Irish signed a few on the condition they not be published in her lifetime. Later 5 were published in Playboy. 13 more were discovered and these were the ones Dave was going to use for reference. If you ever saw her 1955 Sheena tv show, you'll understand why Dave admired her as much as Betty.
