DescriptionThanks to Grant Riddle for the information and to Josh from Modern Mythology for the art. When I saw late last year that there would be a new Thing series, I went into art acquisition mode. Here is the result! I chose this page because it features a rematch between our hero and the Champion of the Universe. Ben is wailing on him here which I love (and why I chose this one in particular). It doesn't go on long but it's fun while it lasts. Fun, kinetic and slick cartooning by Reilly which reminds me of Chris Samnee. Social/Sharing |

Cool, a rematch from the classic Marvel Two-in-One Annual?! Love the technique he used to demonstrate the speed and power of the punch in panel four!

Not just a rock collector ... orange rocks of the polygonal, spiky, or lumpy type

Ben getting in his licks - definitely the page you wanted no doubt :) Dig that first 8 even panel layout, with the page closed out with a classic mano y mano splash image in the 9th. GOOD stuff, Chris. Congrats on adding another Ben beaut to the collection!

Reilly does such a great job channeling the best of Samnee's energy while simultaneously doing his own thing...er...Thing. Great page, man!

Stick and move, Benjy. Show 'im that ol razzle-dazzle. I was a massive fan of the first Thing series (big Secret Wars guy), and I'm definitely going to pick this up. I love the boxing issue against Champion to save Earth, and this callback is fantastic. And what a great battle scene by Reilly. Great find. Congrats!

The Thing during clobbering time, what more can you ask for? Congrats.

I don't know about this Tom Reilly guy. He seems to only know how to punch left handed.

I noticed that. Also Ben is dropping his head in panel three which is a cardinal sin!

Love his art as well and he indeed shares some storytelling clarity with Samnee ;)

Man-o-man I'm loving Reilly's art on this series! Such a fun story full of "what-the?" and "holy moly" moments! I've also been loving Reilly's use of different 9-panel layouts to capture a lot of action and story in a single page.

I see this and all I can think about is the Two-in-one annual #1 issue. The one with Hulk wussing out.

There we go, Chris - Clobberin' Time it is! Lots of fun and pent up energy blown out in those first eight panels (a great narrative way to put a lot of 'oomph' into a small space), but it only works if the artist is up to the challenge... which of course Tom is. Great call on the Samnee influence. This is a stellar example of a great Thing battle page, nestled nicely at home among your other fantastic examples! A bashful, blue-eyed Benjy beauty! Congrats, Chris!

Great battle page! Tons of action and great description of the speed and power these guys are throwing. The Samnee influence is definitely strong with Tom but I feel like in this Thing series you can really see him coming into his own.

Can Reilly do any wrong ?
I too also thought his art was really close to Samnee's when I first saw it , however I do feel he's came into his own.
I get a big 60s vibe from his work.
Youre fortunate to have this beautiful piece in your collection !
