DescriptionI just realized that I never posted a photo of this. When I acquired Don Heck's art table a few years ago (see other post in this gallery), I also got his light box. Many artists over the years have used a light box in their drawing. It allows the artist to leverage other materials in their drawing and is often used when the artist creates a prelim prior to the finished drawing. (Other artists, like Mike Grell, use a projector for the same purpose.) I don't know about his Marvel years, but Don Heck often created prelims when working for DC. (See my Don Heck prelim gallery for examples.)I don't know the exact age of Don's light box, but it clearly has some age on it and was put to plenty good use. Best of all, it still works! (See Additional Images for photo.) It is illuminated by two florescent bulbs and has an on/off switch on the side. I enjoy imagining Don drawing his Batgirl pages from the 1970s on this light box.
