Description1950's interior illustration for a mystery story by Leslie L. Ford for Saturday Evening Post. Your initial visualization is of a sexy young woman in bed, then on closer examination you see a trickle of blood creeping down her neckline and you realize she is dead. In the mirror you see a hand on the doorknob, as the murderer exits the room and then you see a wig on the dresser, clearly the killer wore a disguise. An amazing amount of story in a simple illustration. Gorgeous, and so out of character from the usual "portraits of beauties" that Georgi excelled at and is most famous for. Although I don't collect much non-paperback art, I do sometimes try to hunt down pieces from magazine illustrators and Edwin Georgi is one of my absolute favorites. Congrats John!

John, I've discovered that this illustration was used for the story titled Woman in Black by Leslie Ford, and published in the January 25th, 1947 issue of Saturday Evening Post. I have a low rez scan of the printed version, so let me know if you want it and I'll e-mail it to you.

Love this piece. Very tense and Georgi's usual unusual color palette.

Love the limited color palate and the fabric is just great!
