Description

Mike Danger, for those unaware, was a character created by hardboiled novelist Mickey Spillane, of Mike Hammer fame. The character was brought to comics by his friend Max Allan Collins, and although most of the art was done by Eduardo Barreto, Steve Erwin did some artwork on the title as well, including this lovely promotional piece of art inked by Max Allan Collins' Ms Tree collaborator, Terry Beatty. It is evident to most folks that the female lead was another Bettie Page look-alike. Steve says, "I did a couple of fill-in issues on Mike Danger for Tekno Comix. This piece was for promo uses, as well as a kind stylistic "tryout". Some of the pages from this two-issue story can be found on my ComicSpace.com page, in both the penciled stage (photocopies) and inked pages." I received this piece from Steve Erwin in May 2009. I have since learned that this image was used as the cover image to Mystery Scene Magazine #52.
