DescriptionSo what we've got here is the actual pages that were published in the comic. What we DON'T have here is a page full of art. I purchased this MANY years ago from Marshall Rogers while he was attending a small comic convention in Memphis. He had this wonderful 2-page spread and explained that he first created the image of SS but the editors didn't like the background he drew. So he scanned the image and cut out the SS image - redrew the background so that it had more stars and supposedly matched some actual star chart - then pasted the title and cut-out image on top. It's the first piece of art that I ever owned and as a big fan of the character and the whole series, it holds a dear spot in my collection. From the way he described it, I don't know that there is any other original version of these two pages out there. (CORRECTION: I have been contacted by the person that owns the original art of The Surfer) So while they aren't exactly full of art...they are close enough for me. Social/Sharing |

I was wondering if this would turn up. I have the original in my collection. You can see it in my CAF gallery.

The first will always hold a special place in my mind...but looking back, I clearly didn't appreciate how great that one was. Did you happen to attend as well? Or was there a convention that was special to you?

My first Con and I arranged for Marshall to be there. I was living in Memphis at the time and coordinated with Ron, Comics and Collectibles. That was so long ago. I went to the store while in Memphis a few years ago, first time since the late 90's.
