Description

Although this is a sketch cover, the original art on it caught my eye immediately. Alex Maleev has done a splendid job in capturing the texture as well as character of The Thing. Color sketches are not always successful, but the artist in this instance, in my view at least, knocked it out of the ball park.

Hmm, one of those rare times where I'm actually surprised that something like this would be up your alley. But it IS lovely and you DO have great taste across the board, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised!

Many thanks, Rubén. Yes, this is more an illustration of my diverse taste in original comic artwork. Many thanks once again for your very kind words.

Thing has a real menacing look there!! Pretty cool illustration and very surprised to see it done on a sketch cover canvas, admittedly didnt realize Maleev even did those - but it's super cool. congrats!

Many thanks, Kavi. I do think that it would have been even more impressive if done on a larger board.  It is very nice even in the present format though.

Maleev's solo portraits really get down to the soul of the characters.  While Silver Surfer or Daredevil are easier with Maleev's mastery of expressive body language, the Thing has a thick rocky exterior to get through and only a few traits that are still wholly Ben Grimm.  His approach with the direct shot is where you can see his eyes and teeth with the craggy surface symbolic of his gruff personality.  All you need is a cigar for him to fully resemble King Kirby.

Many thanks, Marcus. Yes, this particular piece does - in your very apt words - capture the "soul" of The Thing. As mentioned, it caught my attention straightaway when I saw it.

Fantastic Thing CAB....I'm a fan of the heavy brow, and realistic rock formations
