Description

No Spidey - but a typically dramatic Ditko ASM page featuring all the angst that afflicts the hapless Peter Parker. There is the ongoing saga following from his breakup with Betty Brant in ASM #30 and the horrendous news of Aunt May's illness brought about by the blood transfusion from Peter in ASM #10. Typically, no good deed goes unpunished, but this terrible (and deadly) illness forms the basis for Spider-Man going on a rampage when he finds out that the vital serum that is needed to cure his aunt has been stolen by the Master Planner - who turns out to be none other than Dr Octopus himself. This sets the stage (in turn) for one of the most famous issues in #33, which features that incredible sequence by Ditko where Spidey (in a Herculean effort) somehow lifts the steel beams that have seemingly condemned him to a watery grave and retrieves the serum and saves his aunt. On a related noted, that sequence now belongs to Mike Burkey (who has the entire book) and can be viewed at his website (at romitaman.com).

Great page! The exploits of Peter Parker were frequently more entertaining than those of his alter-ego, Spider-Man. The Master Planner story arc is one of the very best (if not THE best) and I was very lucky to have acquired an example from this issue for my own collection
