DescriptionWith escalating prices mixed with hype and FOMO, the original comic art collecting scene is very different from that which existed decades ago. Not necessarily progress, in my view, and I am glad that my nostalgic wants were largely satisfied a long time ago. However, I discovered that my passion for the hobby is not only nostalgic but also aesthetic as well. And in so far as aesthetics are concerned, there is still some extremely affordable (often, and not surprisingly, more modern) artwork that is extremely impressive as well. While I admit that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I have found that there is a large overlap in views as to what constitutes beautiful original comic art. Regardless, though, this is, in my view at least, a piece that was not only really affordable (notwithstanding the extra juice from the buyer's premium) but really impressive from an artistic standpoint as well. Borrowing from the succinct auction description, in this piece, Hawkman leads a flying army of Thanagarians into aerial warfare.Social/Sharing |

The Hawks looked good but they were no match for the Celtics.

Many thanks, John. I hadn't realized that each had moved from Atlanta and Boston to establish outerspace franchises as well! I do have a soft spot for the Celtics though.

What a stunner! Eaglesham is at his best when he has room to breathe like this. Makes me realize I have a Hawkman hole in my collection I need to fill.

Many thanks, Tom. I must confess that I have become an Eaglesham fan only lately. He is a great artist!

Great pieces don't come cheap! You can argue that this is Eaglesham and Von Grawbadger breaking opening the heavens for the angels to come save the day. Only the Thanagarians are more war like and will take limbs over souls! Whatever you thought of this duo, it just got bumped up the FOMO list for everyone else.

Many thanks, Marcus. I don't think that this is likely to create FOMO for these artists, but it is a wonderfully crafted piece all the same.

It's not just the aesthetics of the art styles themselves, it's the love for the character designs and the characters themselves. Make no mistake about it, there still IS some level of nostalgia involved in these contemporary pieces. Not for the exact image itself, but for the character that evoke your own memories of the same character that you remember from the older comics you read in your younger years. This is a beautiful piece and very affordable in this day and age!

Many thanks, Rubén. That is a very perceptive observation - yes, there's also nostalgia on that level as well.

There are so many reasons to collect and to curate. The value or the worth It is not necessary the most relevant one. The emotion or the feeling that any piece of art provoques is, to me, the most relevant one. I'm not a Hawkman fan but I have to admit that piece of art is beautiful and impressive. Very good reason to have it in any collection. Huge congrats!

Many thanks, Toni. I totally agree. As mentioned, I obtained this piece purely because of its aesthetics (although I also happen to be a Hawkman fan as well).

Hawkman and Hawkgirl are one of my favorite characters. This page was such a tour de force by Eaglesham. I was truly envious of you and this purchase. Eaglesham should carry more respect in the industry. He is such a phenomenal penciler. Congrats!
