DescriptionI've been reading comic books for all my life, enjoying fists, fights, multidimensional travels, heroes, superheroes, villains, supervillains and all the adventure that grown-ups call nonsense.Among these readings there are some comic books, that adults call graphic novels, that should be read and taught in school; one of them is Maus, the other one is Persepolis. I remember when I first read Satrapi's work, I thought "wow, people have to read this", so I started gifting the book to as many people as possible; all of them came back to me with an enthusiastic approach. They loved it and they even watched the movie (which is, of course, not as good as the book). Almost all of them hadn't read any comic book in ages and almost all of them did not start again after reading Persepolis. Wife included. When the first batch of art became available on Sotheby's, I tried my best to buy one piece, any piece, but prices skyrocketed; the cheaper pages doubled, at least, the opening bid/estimated value. Then the second batch became available; same starting price as the first auction, but I knew where the art would go. I was prepared and I needed one page. The only problem was I was travelling in Egypt, around the Assuan Area (Abu Simbel anyone?) in the Sudan desert, so the connection was an utopia. Before departing for the trip I placed my bid. Strong. As strong as I could. When I reached the boat in Luxor, 4 hours later after the auction had ended, I finally connected to Wi-Fi and got the best notification ever "You won the lot". 'Nuff said. I had to struggle a lot to have to page delivered to me in Italy (f++k Brexit), but now it is on my wall in the same frame that was used during the Sotheby’s exhibition. And I can enjoy it as much as I can. If you read all this long post: please do yourself a favour and buy a copy of Persepolis. If you don't like it, I will reimburse the cover price. Social/Sharing |

Pushes the artform to a level only a few have been able to achieve. Its appeal is in the genuine story of humanity behind it. It ultimately shows how the pen and ink is more powerful than the sword over the long run of history.

There are number of stories/books that highlight the power of this medium. This is definitely one of them. Congrats on having the opportunity to own a page ... also, it sounds like the adventure to get it makes it sweeter!
