DescriptionFrom the collection (and when prices were saner). Although I am not unappreciative of, I am not a huge fan or collector of, good girl art. However, Barry Windsor Smith could draw attractive ladies and this page is a good example of it. After all, who could resist not one, but two, femmes fatales both of whom have, in their own distinct way, bested our seemingly near-indestructible (and favorite) barbarian? With one even saving him from certain death at the hands of the other (only to steal from him in turn)? And, yes, you even get Conan on the page too! This penultimate page of the story has been marvellously inked by the great Sal Buscema as well.Social/Sharing |

BWS inked by Sal Buscema was very special.
I loved this comic when it came out. Can not imagine how wonderful you must feel actually having this beauty of a page in your collection.
Congratulations and thanks for posting this!

Wow! Smith/Buscema?!? Eeshk - what an add, CAB!! The vertical lining of the sorceress' cape in the top tier adds some really luscious BWS visual texture here (along with the hair, of course :) ), and it stands as another marvelous add to your gallery, CAB! (How long have you been holding onto this one?) Congrats, CAB!

Barry Smith was already so far ahead of most of his contemporaries by the time he got to this point of the Conan series, it was a revelation. I can't speak for anyone else, but although I also don't specifically seek out Good Girl Art, I do appreciate it a lot, especially if the art contains your a Femme Fatale or two and this page certainly has them in spades. A wonderful example from this run!

Many thanks, Rubén! I always loved the wonderful detail in his artwork on Conan and although he had a number of inkers, Sal always did a wonderful job of inking his work.

Dear Toni, many thanks for your very kind words! Your collection itself, though, is fantastic in and of itself.

I just love Barry Windsor-Smith's work on Conan. There is something so beautiful about the way it's composed, the way the figures are drawn, the way the story unfolds. It's just the quintessential comic book, IMHO. Great page, by the way. It exemplifies all the things I love about BWS's work.

Many thanks, Bill! I totally agree. I think it helped that Robert E Howard's stories were also excellent in themselves, although BWS (and his inkers) were able to articulate this so well artistically.

Many thanks, Paul! Yes, although Sal is a great artist in his own right, he somehow "got" Barry's pencils on Conan. Many congrats on a fantastic collection as well.
