DescriptionEvil Ernie and eventually the entire Chaos line of comics were huge to me and my brothers as young teens of the era. We loved the books so much and they were so influential to me and especially my younger brother (comic artist Andrew Mangum) that he knew he wanted to be a comic artist and draw the dark and crazy we so loved as kids when he grew up. And he has been doing comics ever since, and God bless him he has even done some of the new Evil Ernie covers for the new Evil Ernie regular series coming from Dynamite later this year. So the Hughes Evil Ernie stuff will always be near and dear to our hearts. :)While I enjoyed the Ernie titles through all the artists like Justiniano, Kyle Hotz, and Dave Brewer, I especially love the early Ernie stuff and one of the main reasons was for Steven Hughes art. He literally was the look of the company. He designed all the visuals and characters and it even seemed like he drew everything they did until new blood like Justiniano and the others came along. Earlier in my art collecting I had managed to acquire a few really nice classic pieces of Ernie and Lady Death art by Steven, some covers and splashes mostly, but ended up having to sell it all over the years for various reasons and I always regretted it because it is so hard to find quality pieces out there, especially from the early stuff. So whether I am "retired" or not, when I saw this was available I had to get it. Had to. (collecting is a sickness, after all:) My scanner is only 11x17 and as was common for Steven, his art is more like 11 1/2 inches instead of the standard 11 so my scanner cropped a little off the bottom. So I am including a digital pic of the whole board to show it all, as well as the published DPS. This is also just one 11 1/2x17 art board, even though it was published as a DPS. But it is a really great representation of the character and period so I am thrilled to have a new Hughes piece in the collection:) Social/Sharing |

DPS on one board, my favorite!! Big congrats, I can only image what this looks like in person, impressively Evil in black & white!!
