DescriptionACQUISITION DATE: 2007SOURCE: auction OWNER HISTORY: unknown DIMENSIONS: 17x22 STOCK: bristol CREATION DATE: unknown SIGNATURE: n/a PUBLICATION: 2001 As with acquisitions made just before my birthday, the last piece of art I buy before Christmas becomes my official Christmas present to myself. In this case, I won the piece you see here on ebay a week before Christmas. Since the seller was a buddy of mine, he shipped it even before I sent out payment and the piece arrived (appropriately enough) on Christmas Eve day! How cool is that? Anyway, I’ve been aware of Leinil Yu’s talents for quiet some time now, and I always felt that I would eventually be adding an example of his artwork to my collection. Unfortunately, all the nice covers and/or splashes I saw for sale were quite a bit out of my price range. When I saw this double spread on ebay, the bidding was still low enough to where I thought I might actually have a shot at getting it for a decent price. So I put in a modest bid and luckily it held up! =) The piece itself is a double spread from a back up story in the 2001 FANTASTIC FOUR Annual. Now even though I’ve never been character or content specific in my art buying, I love that this spread features The Thing and Dragon Man! I think both are fun and interesting characters to draw, and that Leinil just nailed them in this piece, as they seem very suited to his drawing style. I do have to give some huge props to inker Gerry Alanguilan for his amazing job on the piece. If you could see the original, there are so many stray pencil lines on this page that it must’ve driven him crazy trying to figure out which one to follow. In the end, I really think it’s his contribution as inker that puts this piece over the top for me. Last, but not least, a HUGE thank you to my man Kwan Chang for getting this into my hands before the holiday! Please be sure to check out his CAF gallery and website at Kwanchang.com for lots of great artwork for sale. Social/Sharing |

Nice piece dude. BTW, you must be good friends with Kwan. He makes me pay before he ships out the art to me. :P

Dude, I've never even seen you give Kwan a dime! I don't think he even CHARGES you for artwork! So who's got the hook up now, eh? LOL
