Okay, well, I think the very first time I saw this piece was on ebay while I was still living in San Diego. Of course it immediately reminded me of my limited edition Warlock print original (also in this gallery). While certainly not identical, the basic design idea is very similar. A full figure of the main character with a large close-up of his face at the top. I honestly can’t remember if I bothered to place a bid or not since I did already have a very similar looking piece. Obviously I didn’t get it back then, since it traveled around before making its way back to me. I think the biggest difference between the two pieces is emotional content. One scene is quite serene and almost reflective, while the other is much more dramatic and intense. I don’t necessarily feel that one scene works better than the other, but I would have to say that the rendering is stronger in the piece done for the limited edition print (okay, okay, I’m more than a bit biased since I’ve owned that one for so long). I’ve often wondered whether this other version was a rejected first attempt by Craig for the final print, but a friend of mine asked him and he has denied it. Apparently he just wanted to do two different pieces. Besides, this one is dated a year AFTER the print original. Anyway, I guess I don’t get any sort of credit for “re-uniting” these pieces, since Craig has denied that they are indeed related to each other. So now I just have to pretty similar pieces sitting in my gallery. Granted, they are both pretty SPECTACULAR similar pieces! LOL! Thanks to my buddy Joe for selling the piece to me at cost. Whatever it is you needed the cash for, I’m glad the need arose for me to benefit from. Social/Sharing |

You know, I don't have one Warlock piece and after checking out both of Craig's pieces that you have, I now realize that it's time to correct this. Thanks for waking me up on that one Eric and as usual, another nice addition added to your gallery.

As the song "At Last. . . " by Etta James trickles through my mind, I wonder if my precious few Warholian fifteen minutes of fame have reached their pinnacle in this shout out from the great collector Eric Delos Santos here on CAF. And if so, it is a good enough way for them to go. Congrats again my friend on a beautiful piece from a terrific period in the ever evolving artistry of the continuously creative Craig Hamilton!

Ah, the great Etta James! Good call buddy! You show just as good a taste in music as you do in art. As far as the shout out, very well deserved, considering all the very kind comments you've left throughout this gallery!

Craig Hamilton is one of those rare artists that came out of the gate mostly fully formed. Sure over the years he's tweaked the technique, redefined approach, but much of the grace & strength of his drawing was there at the beginning.

This is extremely nice Eric. There are so many great things about this including a very cool energy that flows throughout the entire piece. Thanks for deciding to share this with all of us. ;)
